Some of McKenney’s best representatives spent March 9th and 10th at the Georgia World Congress Center for the Construction Ready Career Expo. The event provides middle and high school students an opportunity to connect with professionals in the construction industry and learn about trades, skills, and other career options after school.
Construction Ready connects employers with future high school graduates interested in developing trade skills and starting their construction careers. A popular highlight of the expo is the SkillsUSA State Championships, a competition that invites students to showcase their skills in several construction-related disciplines. Drawing over 9,000 attendees and over 300 companies this year, Construction Ready Expo is the Southeast’s largest construction event.
McKenney’s played two primary roles at the expo, hosting the World of Heating and Air booth and greeting and conducting safety briefs for students in the World of Safety as they arrived.
At the World of Heating and Air, students were provided with multiple opportunities to interact with the many services and capabilities McKenney’s provides. Every section of the booth was a hit. Some students enjoyed donning an oculus and conducting a virtual walkthrough of a McKenney’s project, while others gravitated toward getting a birds-eye view of the entire expo by climbing the stairs on the scaffolding or riding the scissor lift. The McKenney’s shop even allowed many students to safely try out their welding skills. McKenney’s also partnered with Heaton to showcase a mobile crane during the event. Lastly, students enjoyed discussing career opportunities in critical systems and discovering what it takes to become a service technician at McKenney’s.
The turnout for this event was incredible, and McKenney’s valued the opportunity to connect with potential future tradesmen and women who might one day join us in the construction industry. From displaying our virtual construction technology to offering a chance to safely try out welding, McKenney’s was able to provide something of interest to the hundreds of students that came by our booth.
