Emory Musculoskeletal Institute
McKenney’s installed the mechanical and plumbing systems for this LEED-certified medical office building and 800-spot parking deck. A unique challenge presented by the project was the incorporation of these systems into the intelligent design of special architectural ceilings that resemble the human musculoskeletal system. Also challenging was maintaining crew safety while rigging and hoisting equipment and materials.
“This project was incredibly complex from a mechanical and plumbing perspective, and McKenney’s executed the work at a high standard,” recounts Brian Smith, Operations Manager at Brasfield & Gorrie, one of the project’s leads. “Their attention to detail on all aspects of the project was extraordinary, and their thorough execution of the work was unparalleled. Having McKenney’s on their team made their delivery of the project a successful one.”
VERO Biotech
McKenney’s was chosen to be part of the project team when it came time for VERO Biotech to renovate and expand its production space. The project scope involved removing all existing mechanical and plumbing systems in the offices and converting the spaces to clean rooms and labs.
Amongst several unique challenges faced during the renovation was the safe coordination of multiple trades while minimizing the disruption to VERO Biotech and surrounding tenants. To overcome this challenge, McKenney’s had to develop a plan to manage air quality and prevent dust infiltration into cleanrooms while installing new systems without impacting surrounding tenants.
Facing a tight schedule, McKenney’s deployed multiple teams that performed tasks in numerous areas without impacting crew flow, compromising efficiency, or creating quality issues. They also utilized innovative technologies to simplify quality control tasks and documentation on the project, improving overall efficiency and quality. The project was finished safely, on time, and on budget.
