McKenney’s designed and installed a prefabricated rooftop chiller enclosure for a prominent office building in Atlanta, Georgia.
The Challenge
A recent data center expansion required additional chiller capacity. The expansion was located in a downtown office building without adequate space to add chillers. Because pre-manufactured enclosures installed on the roof presented their own challenges in terms of structural requirements, costs and schedules, the McKenney’s team was tasked with creating a customized solution without compromising the budget and timetable.
The Solution
McKenney’s proposed to design, fabricate and install a large rooftop enclosure that met the owner’s specifications while accommodating the schedule. Our seamless coordination with the entire team allowed the owner to have more input on the features of the enclosure and the owners were able to make last-minute changes without compromising the schedule.
The Results
The 35,000 pound chiller enclosure was installed on the roof in less time and for less cost than a pre-manufactured enclosure. Now, Equinix has additional chiller capacity for its larger, refurbished data center.
